Dr. Linda Aurelia Ofori is a senior lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology. Her interest in research was ignited 18 years ago when she played an active role in a research on “Effect of sunlight and varying water receptacles on drinking water” under the direct supervision of Prof K. Obiri Danso. The success of this project was instrumental in heightening her zeal to pursue a career in research.
Linda was awarded an MSc degree in Environmental Science in KNUST, where she gained experience in Parasitology and Protobiology. She embarked on a project funded by the Challenge Program from the Water and Food Agriculture Organization. This gave her the opportunity to gain laboratory experience in Denmark and Burkina Faso after which she obtained an IFS grant for a follow up project on “Protozoan contamination of irrigation water and lettuce leaves in Kumasi”.
She obtained a Doctorate degree in Molecular Bacteriology and Infection from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. There, she embarked on a research on “antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella associated with humans and poultry in Ghana” with support from DANIDA. This research enriched her knowledge in Antimicrobial resistance and molecular epidemiology which enabled her to form collaborations with German partners to undertake a project on “Genetic adaptation of Non-Typhoid Salmonella within humans and animals in sub-Saharan Africa”.
Linda is a reviewer for several local and international journals. She is a member of WiSTEM Ghana, Society for Applied Microbiology, Ghana Science Association among others.
Linda is a mid-career scientist with a zeal to achieve excellence wherever she finds herself. Linda possesses a strong love for humanity and creates avenues to network with people both home and abroad. She is a mentor to many up-coming researchers as she is motivated by the positive impact she is making in raising future generation Scientists and Technologists. Linda is currently the warden of Africa Hall, a residence in KNUST which houses over 750 students.
