The Ghana Young Academy in collaboration with the Agnes Pem Foundation announces the launch of the Two-Minute Thesis Competition.
What is the Two-Minute Thesis Competition?
This competition challenges Master’s students to communicate the significance of their research projects to a non-specialist audience in two minutes.
Presentation rules
- Tell us why your research is important in 2 minutes.
- Presentations are limited to 2 minutes. Anything exceeding 2 minutes will be disqualified.
- Videos must meet the following criteria:
- Filmed on the horizontal, plain background;
- Filmed from a static position;
- Filmed from one camera angle;
- Filming does not have to be professionally;
- A single static powerpoint slide is permitted in the presentation (no slide transitions, animations or ‘movement’ of any kind).
- This may be visible on your right side.
- The 2 minute audio must be continuous – no sound edits or breaks.
- No additional props (e.g. costumes, laboratory equipment, animated backgrounds) are permitted within the video.
- Presentations are to be spoken, not poems, raps or songs.
- No additional sound or video files are permitted within the recording.
- All videos will be posted on our social media platforms. The public will have 30% voting rights.
- The decisions of the judges are final and not negotiable.
- Videos will not be judged based on quality.
Eligibility
- Entries are sought from only postgraduate students offering Master’s programmes in Ghana.
- Competition is open only to Ghanaians resident in Ghana.
- Evidence of your status as a student is required. Master’s students who have completed their programmes up to one-year post-qualification are eligible.
- Your supervisor/advisor’s consent is also required.
Prizes
First Prize: GHC 3,000.00
Second Prize: GHC 2,000.00.
Third Prize: GHC 1,000.00
