The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) has launched a new report on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of its mandate – the global network of comprising over 140 science, engineering and medical academies – deliberates with its members and young academies around the world on how to engage with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The report which is an outcome of the three-year project, Improving Scientific Input to Global Policymaking with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The IAP and its members, through this project, explored how effectively to contribute to the SDGs at various levels through science.
The report promotes open engagement and inclusiveness to promote evidence-based policy design, implementation and review. It details actionable recommendations for academies and other stakeholders in science. The report therefore includes a checklist, “How you can support the implementation of the SDGs” to help individual scientists support and engage with the process.
The report was launched at a Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) in May 2019.
